Tata Workers Union Prepares for Impending Elections
Tata Workers Union’s election process gains momentum, expected to conclude by January end in Jamshedpur.
JAMSHEDPUR – The election atmosphere is intensifying within the Tata Workers Union, with expectations of the election bells ringing anytime in December.
As per union rules, the new committee must assume office by February.
Anticipations are high for elections to be held by the end of January.
The last elections took place on January 31, 2021, with certification issued in February, necessitating elections by February 2023.
With only two months remaining, election notifications are due as mandated by the union’s constitution.
The process involves selecting an election officer, followed by the formation of an election committee, overseeing all election procedures.
A total of 11 office bearers are to be elected by 214 committee members.
Initially, these 214 committee members will be elected, who will then select the office bearers.
However, numerous committee member positions are currently vacant.
Approximately two dozen committee member posts in the Tata Workers Union remain unfilled.
Election rules stipulate that the election process for vacant posts should start within 15 days, leading to elections within a month.
Yet, elections for over 24 posts have not been conducted, deviating from constitutional norms.
This oversight might lead to legal challenges, potentially involving the High Court.
Legal complexities have historically marred the Tata Workers Union elections, often resulting in High Court cases.
The union has regularly conducted elections under government supervision due to these legal entanglements.
The likelihood of this issue once again reaching the courts could introduce further complications in the election process.
