UPSC 2024 Prelims Postponed Due to Elections

Date for Civil Services Preliminary Exam Changed June 16

The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has announced the postponement of the Civil Services Examination (Preliminary) 2024, initially scheduled for 26 May 2024, due to the Lok Sabha elections. The revised date for the examination is now set for 16 June 2024.

NEW DELHI – In a significant announcement affecting thousands of civil services aspirants across the country, the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has deferred the Civil Services Examination (Preliminary) 2024.

Originally planned for 26 May, the examination’s scheduling conflict with the upcoming Lok Sabha elections has necessitated the shift. As a result, the examination will now take place on 16 June 2024, a decision aimed at ensuring that the electoral process does not disrupt the aspirants’ ability to participate in one of India’s most prestigious examinations.

This adjustment also applies to the Indian Forest Service Preliminary Examination 2024, indicating the Commission’s commitment to maintaining the integrity of the examination process while accommodating the democratic electoral proceedings. Aspirants are advised to refer to the official UPSC website for further updates and details regarding the rescheduling.

The UPSC Civil Services Examination is known for its rigorous selection process, aimed at recruiting for over a thousand vacancies this year.

The examination consists of three stages: Prelims, Mains, and the Interview. The Preliminary examination comprises two papers, each carrying 200 marks, covering General Studies (GS) and the Civil Services Aptitude Test (CSAT).

With a requirement to secure at least 33 percent marks in the CSAT and the GS paper’s score determining eligibility for the Mains, candidates face a highly competitive selection environment. Furthermore, the examination enforces a negative marking scheme for incorrect answers, adding to the challenge.

The UPSC’s decision to postpone the examination underscores the significance of the Civil Services Examination in selecting candidates for India’s administrative machinery.

It also reflects the importance of ensuring that all aspirants have a fair and equal opportunity to participate, even in the face of significant national events like the Lok Sabha elections.
