JAMSHEDPUR — A young man suffered serious injuries early Saturday morning after a speeding silver Hyundai i10 rammed his motorcycle near Station Mahua Gali in Jamshedpur, sending him to MGM Hospital for urgent treatment.
The victim, Sandeep Kumar, is a resident of Gol Pahari Kali Mandir locality. He was riding his motorcycle towards Sakchi Mandi at around 4:30 am to purchase fruit. Meanwhile, a silver-coloured Hyundai i10 came at high speed and struck his bike with tremendous force.
The collision left Sandeep Kumar critically injured. On the other hand, the car’s occupants did not stop to help and apparently fled the scene. Local residents who had gathered rushed to the aid of the injured youth.
With the help of bystanders, Sandeep was taken immediately to Sadar Hospital for initial treatment. However, doctors assessed his condition as serious. They then referred him to MGM Hospital for advanced medical care.
The incident caused brief panic in the surrounding area. In addition, it drew attention to the risk posed by speeding vehicles on Jamshedpur’s roads during early morning hours. Jamshedpur recorded 31 road accidents in April alone, with 24 fatalities and 14 injuries.
Police have registered the case and launched an investigation into the incident. The identity of the car’s driver and its registration details were being ascertained by the Tatanagar area police at the time of filing this report.
Early-morning road accidents involving speeding vehicles have been a recurring problem on Jamshedpur’s city roads, with two-wheeler riders among the most vulnerable.
