Panic Grips Neelkanth Neelam Residents Over Harhargutu Blaze

JAMSHEDPUR – Panic gripped residents of Neelkanth Neelam Apartment in Harhargutu on Sunday after smoke was spotted billowing from a locked flat on the second floor. The apartment is located on LBSM College Road in the Parsudih police station area.
Nearby residents noticed the smoke and alerted other occupants of the building. However, the Parsudih police station and the fire department were informed immediately after the smoke was first noticed.
Police reached the spot soon after receiving the information, and relief operations were launched without delay. Meanwhile, all residents of the apartment stepped out of their flats as a safety precaution once news of the incident spread.
Since the flat was locked, people broke the lock to gain entry inside. What they found left everyone stunned. The entire room was filled with smoke, and blast-like sounds were reportedly coming from within.
One resident of the flat said a fire extinguisher had been kept inside for safety purposes. It was with the help of this extinguisher that the fire was eventually brought under control. During the inspection, it emerged that a split AC unit installed in the room had exploded, triggering the blaze.
The air conditioner was completely destroyed in the incident, while other items kept in the room were also damaged by the fire. However, it was a stroke of luck that no one was present in the flat at the time of the incident, which meant there was no loss of life.
Information about the incident was also passed on to the flat’s owner, Rahul Majumdar, who reached the spot a short while later. Police are currently investigating the entire matter.
Preliminary findings suggest the fire may have been caused by a technical fault in the air conditioning unit. Pradeep Mishra, a resident of the flat, spoke to reporters at the scene about the sequence of events.
Parsudih and adjoining residential localities in Jamshedpur have periodically reported fire incidents linked to electrical and appliance faults in recent years. Similar blazes attributed to short circuits or equipment malfunction have been recorded in other parts of the city, alongside separate incidents involving market fires and vehicle fires across Jamshedpur.
