Police Recover Contraband Worth Rs 50 Lakh During Anti-Crime Drive

JAMSHEDPUR – Police achieved a major breakthrough against illegal narcotics on Sunday, arresting six accused from the Sidgora police station area during an ongoing anti-crime checking drive across the district. Officers recovered a large quantity of ganja, vehicles and cash from their possession.
Senior Superintendent of Police Dr Ehtesham Waquarib said the arrests were made as part of a district-wide anti-crime checking campaign. He said the accused were apprehended near Litti Chowk under the Sidgora police station limits.
According to information received, police were conducting an intensive vehicle checking drive in the area at the time. Officers grew suspicious of certain activities and proceeded to search a group of individuals.
The search led to the recovery of 59 kilograms of ganja from the accused. The estimated market value of the seized contraband stands at around Rs 50 lakh, police said.
Officers also seized a Bolero vehicle, a motorcycle and Rs 3,000 in cash during the operation. Preliminary questioning revealed the accused were allegedly involved in the purchase and sale of illegal narcotics.
Police are further probing where the consignment of ganja originated and its intended destination. Investigators are working to trace the supply chain linked to the seizure.
Meanwhile, all six arrested accused were sent to judicial custody after completion of the necessary legal procedures. Police said a thorough investigation into the case was underway, with raids continuing to trace others connected to the network.
Officials said sustained campaigns were being conducted across the district to curb the drug trade, and similar action would continue in the future. Anti-narcotics operations have intensified in Jamshedpur in recent weeks amid a broader crackdown on trafficking networks.
In a related case, police in Ghatshila recently arrested three persons with a 1.81 kg haul of cannabis and brown sugar. Officers had earlier held three more accused with ganja and brown sugar in the same area.
Besides Ghatshila, smugglers were also intercepted in Galudih, where three persons were caught transporting 11 kg of cannabis from Odisha into the district. In Ranchi, a woman was separately arrested with 89.32 grams of brown sugar worth Rs 5 lakh.
However, narcotics were not the only target of recent police operations. Officers in the city also managed to bust a theft gang and arrest five accused in a separate crackdown.
