JAMSHEDPUR – A young motorcyclist died on the spot after being struck by an unidentified vehicle in the Pardih area of the city in the early hours of Sunday. The accident occurred around five o’clock in the morning, throwing the locality into a state of shock.
According to eyewitnesses, the victim was riding his motorcycle toward Pardih when an unknown vehicle collided with him at high speed. The impact was so severe that he fell onto the road with critical injuries and died at the scene.
The driver of the vehicle involved fled immediately after the crash. Local residents spotted the young man lying by the roadside and alerted the police without delay.
Officers reached the spot soon after receiving the information and took the body into custody to begin their investigation. The process of sending the body for a post-mortem examination was subsequently initiated.
However, identifying the deceased has emerged as the biggest challenge before investigators. The victim is estimated to be around 20 years old, but no identity card or other documents were recovered from him.
Moreover, the motorcycle he was riding bore no registration number on either its front or rear plate. This has left police with few immediate leads on his identity.
Investigators are now attempting to trace the vehicle’s owner using its engine and chassis numbers. Meanwhile, officers are also scanning footage from CCTV cameras installed in the vicinity to identify the vehicle responsible for the crash.
People present near the accident site are also being questioned as part of the inquiry. Similar hit-and-run cases have been reported elsewhere in the region recently, including a fatal bike accident in Golmuri where police also struggled to trace the victim’s family.
For now, police have preserved the body and begun the identification process. Officials said several important details about the accident are likely to emerge once the deceased is identified.
The search for the unidentified vehicle and its driver, meanwhile, continues.
