SERAIKELA — A tragic road accident on National Highway 33 late Friday night claimed two lives after a speeding Hyva truck lost control and rammed into a parked trailer, leaving both the driver and his helper dead.
The crash took place under the Seraikela-Kharsawan district’s Chauka police station jurisdiction. A trailer had been parked on the roadside. Meanwhile, Hyva truck JH05AN4390 came hurtling from behind at high speed. It then collided headlong into the stationary vehicle.
The impact was so severe that the Hyva’s front section was completely crushed. Moreover, both the driver and the helper got trapped inside the badly damaged cabin. Rescuing them proved extremely difficult.
Police station in-charge Sonu Kumar rushed to the spot along with a police team. In addition, local villagers joined the rescue effort. However, by the time the two men were pulled out of the wreckage, both had already succumbed to their injuries.
The Chauka area on NH-33 has witnessed multiple road accidents in recent months. This stretch, a key corridor through Chandil and Seraikela, regularly sees heavy truck movement late at night.
Police have recorded a rising number of fatal road accidents across the district. The bodies of the two victims were dispatched to Chandil Hospital for post-mortem examination. Furthermore, the identities of the deceased had not been established at the time of filing this report.
An investigation into the accident has been launched. Sonu Kumar said the cause of the crash was being investigated and that further details would follow once the victims’ identities were confirmed.
Similar fatal trailer collision accidents have been occurring with alarming frequency on highways across the district. Traffic police in Seraikela have recently launched an intensive vehicle checking campaign on roads.
