GAMHARIA – Two men were seriously injured in a road accident near the power grid at Rapcha More on the Tata-Kandra road here on Tuesday. The injured, identified as Manik Kapri and Bidesh Mandal, were rushed to Tata Main Hospital in a critical condition following the mishap.
A brief spell of panic gripped the accident spot soon after the crash, according to locals. Bystanders in the area acted quickly to assist the two injured men, lifting them from the road and moving them to a safer location before help arrived.
Amit Kumar, a teacher and district coordinator with the Sant Kabir Seva Sansthan, alerted Gamharia police station and an ambulance service by dialling the 100 helpline as soon as he learned of the accident. A police and ambulance team reached the spot shortly after receiving the information.
Both injured men were given first aid at the scene before being shifted to TMH for advanced treatment. Officials said the two remained under treatment at the hospital, though the exact circumstances that led to the accident had not been established at the time of filing this report.
Police have begun an investigation into the incident to determine the cause of the crash. The stretch has seen a string of accidents in recent months, including a collision on NH-33 near Chandil that left three people injured after a tanker hit a car. Road safety concerns have also surfaced elsewhere in the district, with a recent awareness session on traffic rules held for students in the area.
