Man and Woman Found Hanging in Separate Incidents; Police Conduct Postmortems, Launch Probe

JAMSHEDPUR — Two separate deaths by hanging have been reported in two different police station areas of the city, one involving a man and the other a woman, with police treating both as suspected suicides under investigation.
The third most significant development concerns 51-year-old Gauri Nag, who was found hanging in her flat in Jawaharnagar, under Mango police station jurisdiction. Her family members were present inside the house at the time.
She had retired to her room and did not emerge for an extended period. When the family grew concerned, they opened the door and discovered her body hanging from a noose.
The other incident took place on ME School Road in Jugsalai police station area late Friday night. A 38-year-old businessman, Devanand Vishwakarma, was found hanging at his residence.
His daughter was the first to discover him. She immediately alerted family members and neighbours. On the other hand, he was rushed to hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
In the Mango case, police reached the scene without delay after receiving a tip-off. Officers from Mango police station completed all legal procedures and dispatched the body for postmortem. Meanwhile, in the Jugsalai case, police took the body into custody and initiated inquiries after the report.
Relatives of the deceased businessman indicated that Vishwakarma was engaged in a business. However, no specific reason behind his taking the extreme step has been established. The police are working to determine the circumstances through questioning of family and neighbours.
In both cases, Jugsalai and Mango police have stated that investigations are ongoing. Postmortems were conducted in both cases on Saturday. The bodies were subsequently handed over to the respective families.
The police are questioning family members and people in the neighbourhood. The causes behind both incidents remain under investigation. Officers are working to reconstruct the events that may have led to the deaths.
Such incidents of apparent suicide have also been reported recently in other parts of Jamshedpur and the surrounding region. In one similar case in Sonari, a young woman died by suicide and her partner was subsequently booked by police.
