JAMSHEDPUR — With summer vacations now under way across nearly all English and Hindi medium schools in May, the Agrico Health Committee’s summer camp has emerged as a major attraction for children in the city, drawing participation from more than 500 youngsters.
The camp features a wide range of activities for children. These include sports, an archery competition, fitness activities, recreational games, and several creative programmes. Children are participating with great enthusiasm and energy.
Parents, too, have shown considerable excitement. According to them, such events are extremely important for the physical and mental development of children. Moreover, they said such programmes help build discipline, self-confidence, and sportsmanship among the young participants.
Jamshedpur West MLA Saryu Roy visited the camp during the day. He met with children and parents, and boosted their morale. He also observed the various ongoing activities and appreciated the talent on display.
Speaking on the occasion, MLA Saryu Roy said the Agrico Health Committee has been consistently working to promote sports and social activities. He added that the committee wishes to develop this ground into a superior sports facility. The aim, he said, is to provide better infrastructure for the children of the area in the times ahead.
However, he expressed concern over the lack of support from the authorities. He said it was unfortunate that neither the local administration nor the state government had extended any significant assistance for this work. In spite of that, the Agrico Health Committee has continued its efforts on its own to develop the ground and work towards a better future for the children.
The organisers of the summer camp said that more competitions and training programmes would be organised for children in the coming days. The goal, they stated, is to help children sharpen their talents and deepen their interest in sports. The camp in Jamshedpur is seen as part of a broader push to engage children productively during the long summer break.
In the past, similar sports initiatives in the city have produced results at the national and international level, with young athletes from Jamshedpur going on to represent the country in various disciplines.
