Infiltration Crisis in Jharkhand: Sarma Calls for Collective Action

Assam CM Urges Shared Responsibility in Tackling Demographic Shifts

Assam Chief Minister highlights infiltration concerns in Jharkhand, emphasizing the need for collaborative efforts to address the issue.

JAMSHEDPUR – Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, serving as BJP’s Jharkhand election co-in-charge, raised alarm over increasing infiltration in Jharkhand’s Santhal Pargana region during a press conference on Friday.

Sarma pointed out a significant 50-60 percent population increase of infiltrators in the Santhal Pargana area over the past two decades.

He warned of potential demographic shifts similar to those experienced in Assam.

The Chief Minister noted that Assam’s Muslim population has grown from 12 percent in 1952 to an estimated 40-42 percent recently, largely due to infiltration.

"If infiltration continues unchecked, the day might come when the Chief Minister will have to surrender to the infiltrators," Sarma cautioned.

He emphasized that addressing infiltration is a shared responsibility beyond the Union government’s jurisdiction.

Sarma challenged Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren’s stance on the issue, stating, "The intruders are already inside. We would be very happy if this responsibility is given to the Centre."

He called for a consensus among state officials and proactive measures to tackle the infiltration crisis.

The Assam CM also critiqued Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s position on caste surveys.

Sarma questioned the feasibility of a nationwide caste survey without full transparency on caste identities.

He highlighted the complexity of conducting such surveys and their implications for broader social and political discourse.

In his concluding remarks, Sarma reiterated the importance of collective action in addressing infiltration.

He stressed that safeguarding the state from infiltration is a duty that transcends political lines and requires effort from all levels of government and society.
