JAMSHEDPUR – A concerning incident related to traffic checking has surfaced from Road Number-15 in Azad Nagar, where a pregnant woman was allegedly made to stand in extreme heat while traffic police completed challan formalities during vehicle inspection.
According to the complaint, the woman was returning from a hospital when traffic police stopped her vehicle for checking. It was claimed that all necessary vehicle documents were available, except that the Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificate had expired a few days earlier.
Despite her condition, the pregnant woman was reportedly asked to remain standing under the scorching sun while the challan process was carried out. The incident has triggered criticism and raised questions over the sensitivity and humanitarian approach of the traffic administration.
The complainant stated that a pregnant woman is not just an ordinary citizen but also carries the responsibility of nurturing the next generation. In such situations, ensuring her safety, health, and dignity becomes the responsibility of both society and the administration.
Questions have also been raised over whether enforcing traffic laws should come at the cost of ignoring human sensitivity. The incident has sparked debate regarding the conduct of officials during traffic enforcement drives, especially in cases involving pregnant women, elderly persons, patients, and other vulnerable citizens.
The statement also questioned Traffic DSP Neeraj Pathak regarding whether traffic policing should focus only on issuing challans or also include understanding circumstances and acting with compassion and administrative sensitivity.
While supporting traffic laws and road safety regulations, the complainant urged the administration to adopt a more humane and considerate approach in special situations to avoid unnecessary harassment of citizens.
