PATNA – Patna police shot and wounded a wanted criminal in an encounter near a CNG petrol pump close to Transport Nagar on Monday, arresting two accused linked to the May 13 shooting of a schoolteacher.
The encounter took place near the Gail CNG petrol pump on a highway adjoining Transport Nagar. Police received a tip-off about suspicious activity in the area. A team immediately cordoned off the location.
The accused attempted to flee during the police operation. Officers then opened fire in retaliation. One criminal sustained a gunshot wound. Meanwhile, two accused were apprehended on the spot.
The background to the encounter dates to May 13. On that morning, teacher Shambhu Kumar was heading to school for duty as usual. Two bike-borne criminals intercepted him and attempted a robbery.
When the teacher resisted, the assailants opened fire. They shot him twice. The seriously injured teacher was rushed to hospital for treatment. On the other hand, the perpetrators managed to flee after the attack.
Bihar police launched a relentless manhunt following the crime in the Patna region. The breakthrough came when a reliable source said intelligence inputs led the team to Transport Nagar. The wounded criminal was immediately shifted to hospital. His treatment is currently underway.
According to police sources, both arrested accused were directly involved in the teacher robbery and shooting case. Moreover, multiple criminal cases had been registered against them prior to this incident.
