New Rail Bridge Near Mokama Nears Completion

Double Track Link to Ease Rail Traffic by Mid-2026

Key Points:

  • New Mokama rail bridge likely operational by June 2026
  • Trains to run at speeds up to 110 km per hour
  • Project expected to ease congestion on Rajendra Setu

Bihar – A new double-track rail bridge near Mokama is nearing completion and is expected to begin operations by mid-2026, improving connectivity across Bihar.

The new bridge runs parallel to Rajendra Setu. It connects north and south Bihar efficiently.

Meanwhile, officials expect operations to begin by May or June 2026. The project is in its final stage.

The bridge is crucial for the Mokama-Baroni rail section. It will reduce long waiting hours significantly.

However, the existing Rajendra Setu faces heavy train congestion. Trains often halt at outer signals for long durations.

Moreover, the new structure spans 1.86 kilometers over the Ganga River. It has been built at a cost of around ₹1,700 crore.

In addition, the total project length reaches nearly 14 kilometers. This includes all approach lines.

The new line will allow speeds up to 110 km per hour. This marks a major improvement over current speeds.

Meanwhile, freight and passenger trains will move more smoothly. This will also boost regional trade routes.

The civil construction work is already complete. Tracks have been fully laid on the bridge.

Moreover, a railway office has been established on-site. Detailed inspection of tracks is currently underway.

Electrical infrastructure is also progressing rapidly. Poles have been installed across the bridge.

Meanwhile, high-tension wires are now being placed. This work is ongoing at a fast pace.

Officials stated that safety checks will follow next. The Commissioner of Railway Safety will inspect the bridge.

After approval, train operations will begin soon. Authorities expect clearance before June 2026.

The new bridge will reduce crowding on existing routes. It will also provide an alternative rail path.

In contrast, earlier delays affected passenger schedules frequently. The new system aims to fix that issue.

Moreover, improved timing and reduced travel duration are expected. Passengers will benefit significantly.

This project is seen as a major step in Bihar’s infrastructure growth. It strengthens connectivity across regions.

Additionally, cities like Patna will see indirect benefits. Trade and mobility are expected to improve further.
