CHAIBASA – The Shravani fair was inaugurated by Singhbhum MP Joba Majhi at Mahadevshal Dham in Goilkera on Sunday, marking the start of the month-long festivities.

Inauguration and Preparations

On this occasion, guests bowed their heads in the court of Baba Bholenath and took prasad.

Preparations for the fair have been completed by the Mahadevshal Seva Samiti and the administration.

BDO Vivek Kumar and the police station in-charge, along with committee officials, inspected the facilities to be provided to devotees.

Special attention is being paid to cleanliness in the temple and fair premises.

Crowds of devotees gathered on Sunday, with hundreds performing Jalabhishek.

Significance of the Fair

During the inauguration, MP Joba Majhi highlighted the long-standing tradition of worship at Mahadevshal Dham.

Devotees from Jharkhand and other states come here during Sawan to perform Jalabhishek,” Majhi said.

He expressed hope that the month of Sawan would bring prosperity to Jharkhand.

Other attendees included Mahadevshal Seva Samiti secretary Ramchandra Prasad, district council member Jyoti Meral, block 20-point program implementation committee chairman Akbar Khan, deputy chief Poonam Devi, JMM youth leader Jagat Majhi, Nanka Gupta, Anant Prasad, Sudhir Vajpayee, Gopal Jaiswal, Bablu Chaurasia, Ashutosh Pandey, Guddu Vajpayee, Rakesh Gupta, Prince Khan, Kishore Das, and others.

Historical Significance of Mahadevshal Dham

Mahadevshal Dham, located in Goilkera block, is nestled among picturesque hills.

The temple, home to a broken Shivling, draws devotees daily, with a significant increase during Sawan.

According to legend, during the British era, laborers found a Shivling while constructing the Bengal Nagpur railway line.

British engineer Robert Henry tried to remove the Shivling, breaking it in the process and subsequently dying.

A temple was built at the site, and the tunnel route was altered.

Devotees from Jharkhand, Odisha, West Bengal, Chhattisgarh, and other neighboring states visit Mahadevshal Dham, especially during Sawan.

A fair is organized annually, and several express trains halt at the temple during this month.
