CPI (Maoist) and JJMP members abandon violence, hand over weapons and ammunition
JAMSHEDPUR – Jharkhand Police and the CRPF achieved a major success in the ongoing anti-Naxal campaign after 27 Naxals surrendered and decided to return to the mainstream. The surrender took place at the state police headquarters in the presence of DGP Tadasha Mishra.
Among those who surrendered were 25 members of the CPI (Maoist) and two members of the Jharkhand Jan Mukti Parishad (JJMP). During the surrender, the rebels also handed over 16 modern weapons and more than 2,500 rounds of ammunition to security forces.
Speaking on the occasion, the CRPF IG said continuous operations and several successful encounters by security forces had caused heavy losses to Naxal groups. He added that increasing pressure from security agencies was forcing many rebels to abandon violence and join mainstream society.
DGP Tadasha Mishra described the surrender as a significant achievement in the anti-Naxal campaign and said the sustained pressure by security forces was weakening extremist organisations. She also appealed to other Naxals still active in forest areas to surrender, give up violence, and start a new life by joining the mainstream.
