Security forces describe mass surrender as a major setback for Maoist operations in Kolhan region
JAMSHEDPUR – In a major breakthrough for anti-Naxal operations in Jharkhand, dozens of active and rewarded Maoist rebels, including notorious insurgent Sagen Angaria of Goilkera’s Sangajata village, surrendered before security forces. Officials said the surrender marks a significant blow to Maoist activities in the Kolhan region.
The most prominent among those who surrendered is Sagen Angaria, a resident of Sangajata in Goilkera and a Special Area Committee Member carrying a reward of ₹5 lakh. Police records show that 123 criminal cases are registered against him in different police stations.
Other major rebels who surrendered include Karan Tiu of Goilkera in Chaibasa, carrying a ₹2 lakh reward with 29 cases against him; Gadi Munda alias Gulshan from Bundu, Ranchi, carrying a ₹5 lakh reward with 48 cases; Nagendra Munda alias Prabhat Munda alias Mukhiya from Arki in Khunti, carrying a ₹5 lakh reward with 38 cases; and Rekha Munda alias Jayanti from Bundu, Ranchi, carrying a ₹5 lakh reward with 18 cases registered against her.
Among the surrendered cadres were Darshan alias Binj Hansda from Chotanagra in Chaibasa with 14 cases, Suleman Hansda alias Suni Hansda carrying a ₹5 lakh reward with 13 cases, and Area Commander rank Maoist Basumati Jerai alias Basu from Kiriburu in Chaibasa, who carried a ₹1 lakh reward and was linked to 14 cases.
Several other active cadres including Baijnath Munda, Raghu Kayam alias Guna, Kishore Sirka alias Durga Sirka, Ram Dayal Munda, Vandana alias Shanti, Sunita Sardar, Dangur Boipai, Basanti Devgam, Munniram Munda, Anisha Koda alias Rani, Sapna alias Suru Kalundia, Susari alias Dasma Kalundia, Birsa Koda alias Harisingh, Nuas, Bumli Tiu, Niti Mai alias Niti Hembrom, and Ladu Tiriya also surrendered.
Police officials stated that the surrendered Naxals were collectively involved in 426 Maoist incidents, including killings of security personnel, police encounters, extortion, explosions, arson, and armed attacks carried out across several districts of Jharkhand.
