Jamshedpur plant explores enhanced safety measures with potential vehicle entry restrictions
Tata Steel considers restricting employee vehicle access to Jamshedpur plant for safety, sparking union debate.
JAMSHEDPUR – The Tata Steel Jamshedpur plant is under the spotlight as it reevaluates a significant operational change that may lead to prohibiting employee vehicles from entering its premises.
This initiative, aimed at bolstering safety within the plant, has reignited discussions previously paused by union intervention.
The contemplation of a vehicle ban comes as a measure to curb accidents and enhance employee safety amidst the plant’s bustling activity.
A dedicated committee, led by TV Narendran, MD cum CEO, and chaired by Probal Ghosh, Vice President of Shared Services, with Ashish Aggarwal as the coordinator, has been tasked with examining the logistics of implementing such a ban.
The committee’s mission is to alleviate congestion and streamline movement within the sprawling Tata Steel campus.
Meanwhile, the proposal has stirred controversy, particularly among the Tata Workers Union, where dissent against the union’s elected president, Sanjeev Choudhary Tunnu, has intensified.
Arvind Pandey, a former Deputy President, has vocalized opposition, stressing the potential negative impact on employees and urging the union to advocate against the move.
No official communication from Tata Steel management has been released regarding the vehicle entry ban, leaving the issue unresolved amidst ongoing debates between the union and management.
