Hemant Soren Launches 5K Cr University Project

Jharkhand CM Inaugurates Azim Premji University in Ranchi

Jharkhand’s Chief Minister Hemant Soren laid the foundation for a Rs 5,000-crore Azim Premji University in Ranchi, focusing on education as a key to social development.

RANCHI – Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren inaugurated the Azim Premji University project, a Rs 5,000-crore initiative, in Ranchi’s Itki block.

The university, spanning 146 acres, will surpass Bengaluru’s 110-acre campus as the largest of the foundation.

Soren highlighted the state’s shift from mining-focused development to prioritizing education, with 80 schools of excellence already developed.

500 more such schools are planned, offering education on par with private institutions.

The Chief Minister emphasized the need for social development through education, a departure from the state’s traditional reliance on mines and minerals.

Wipro founder chairman Azim Premji, who joined the event virtually, thanked the state government for its support and anticipated the university being one of India’s largest.

Slated to start functioning in 2026, the university will include a medical college, a 500-bed hospital, health-related institutions, and a school.

The school, covering four acres, will provide free education up to class 12 for students from nearby villages, including facilities like mid-day meals and health check-ups.

The initiative was proposed in 2021, with Soren offering land in Ranchi’s Itki area for its establishment, marking a significant step towards educational development in the eastern region.
