Demand promotion of 9th and 11th graders, ban on private tuition by school teachers
Parents of students who failed in classes 9 and 11 in private schools across Jamshedpur have been creating a ruckus, demanding the promotion of their children. On Friday, parents raised slogans against the school management at DBMS English School, Kadma, insisting that failed children should be promoted in line with Rajendra Vidyalaya school’s policy.
JAMSHEDPUR – The parents of Jamshedpur are up in arms against the decision of English medium private schools to fail students in class IX and XI and refuse to take responsibility for their less than expected performance.
On the other hand, the management of different schools have offered to counsel the children and promote them based on the counseling results.
However, parents argue that the school should have provided counseling earlier and that failed children should not be subjected to counseling now.
The parents have also discussed meeting Dhalbhum SDO Parul Singh and the Deputy Commissioner to address their concerns.
Similarly, parents of failed students at Kerala Samajam Model School met the SDO on Friday, alleging injustice by the school management.
They claimed that failed children were prevented from entering the canteen and that the school management locked the gate after calling parents for a meeting.
The parents also alleged that children who take tuition from school teachers were promoted, while those who do not were failed. They demanded an investigation by the SDO and action against the school management.
Jamshedpur Parents Association’s demands
The Jamshedpur Parents Association met the Deputy Commissioner and made four demands, including the promotion of failed children.
Umesh Kumar, the association’s president, stated that around 2,000 children in classes 9 and 11 have failed in private schools, and the school management has placed the responsibility solely on the candidates and parents.
Ban on private tuition by school teachers
The Association highlighted that private tuition by school teachers is banned under Section 28 of the RTI Act 2009, yet it continues to be practiced.
They demanded a ban on private tuition by teachers, the appointment of PRT, TGT, and PGT qualified teachers for all classes, and special classes for weak students in schools, along with regular revision tests.
