Hemant Soren Meets Wife and Congress Leader in Jail

Cabinet Expansion and Election Strategy Likely Discussed

Former Jharkhand CM’s jail visit sparks speculation about political moves and upcoming cabinet changes in the state government.

RANCHI – Hemant Soren, the former chief minister of Jharkhand currently held in Birsa Munda Central Jail, received visits from his wife Kalpana Soren and state Congress in-charge Ghulam Ahmed Mir on Tuesday.

"We had detailed discussions on various issues with Hemant Soren," Mir stated after the meeting. "Chief Minister Champai Soren may take steps regarding cabinet expansion soon."

Sources suggest that the talks likely centered around strategies for the upcoming assembly elections and potential cabinet reshuffling. Two vacant berths in the current government are expected to be filled shortly.

"Our alliance has begun preparations for the assembly elections," Mir added, noting that top Congress leaders had convened with state unit officials in Delhi on Monday to discuss electoral strategies.

Insiders hint that Kalpana Soren, newly elected MLA from Gandey, might secure a cabinet position alongside another Congress MLA. The need for cabinet expansion arose after Alamgir Alam, a minister from the Congress quota, resigned following his arrest.

Among the potential candidates for the ministerial post, Jamtara MLA Irfan Ansari and Mahagama MLA Deepika Pandey Singh are reportedly front-runners. The cabinet expansion is anticipated to occur before the monsoon session of the Assembly convenes.

This development comes amidst ongoing political tensions in Jharkhand, with the ruling alliance working to maintain stability while preparing for future electoral challenges.
