Renu Bhatia Resigns As Haryana Women Panel Chief After Four-And-A-Half Years Of Service

Chandigarh, June 10 (IANS) Renu Bhatia, the Haryana State Commission for Women Chairperson, has resigned from her position, government officials said.

The resignation letter, dated on TUesday, addressed to the Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, was formally submitted with her signature.

In her resignation letter, Bhatia expressed deep gratitude for the opportunity to serve in the role for around four-and-a-half years.

She highlighted her dedication and honesty while discharging her duties as the Haryana State Commission for Women Chairperson.

Bhatia specifically acknowledged the support and guice received from former Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar and the current Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini.

“I have worked as the Haryana State Commission for Women Chairperson, with full devotion and honesty during my tenure of about 4-12 years,” she wrote.

Bhatia emphasised her commitment to the fight for women’s rights and dignity, saying that she would continue to advocate for these causes in the future as well.

She assured that if appointed to any position in the future, she would fulfill her responsibilities with the same integrity and dedication.

The letter concludes with her formal decision to step down from the current position immediately.

“I am currently submitting my resignation from this post. Therefore, kindly accept my resignation letter,” she urged.

The development suggest that personal reasons or a desire to pursue other avenues might have influenced her decision, though the letter itself maintains a positive and professional tone without citing specific reasons beyond the desire to step down.

However, Renu Bhatia’s remarks in connection with the case of a doctor accused of sexually assaulting his patient in Kurukshetra triggered a wave of controversy. Her comments about the nurse involved drew sharp reactions and led to protests at several places on Tuesday.

Despite the uproar, Bhatia later addressed the issue in Panchkula, where she firmly maintained that her statement contained nothing objectionable and insisted she had not said anything improper.

Her resignation comes at a time when the Haryana government, under Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, continues to focus on women’s empowerment initiatives.

Bhatia’s tenure was marked by efforts to address issues related to women’s safety, rights, and dignity across the state.

The state government has yet not issued any official response or announced a successor to Renu Bhatia as the Haryana State Commission for Women Chairperson.
