JAMSHEDPUR – Traffic police seized 70 to 80 litres of illicit country liquor from a scooter near the railway gate roundabout in Jugsalai on Tuesday afternoon, arresting one person while a second fled the scene.
The action took place when a traffic team flagged down a scooter approaching from the direction of the railway station. The rider attempted to escape instead of stopping. However, ASI Shamshad Alam gave chase on foot and physically intercepted the vehicle.
During the check, the officer detected a strong smell of alcohol on the rider. A search of the scooter led to the recovery of approximately 70 to 80 litres of illegal country-made liquor. The accused was identified as Ravi Kumar Das, a resident of Bagbera.
Das was taken into custody on the spot. Meanwhile, a second individual who was accompanying him managed to flee. Police have launched efforts to trace the absconding accused.
Traffic Inspector-in-Charge Vinay Kumar Singh said that illegal activities in the area were under constant surveillance. “Our teams are maintaining a close watch on such movements,” a police source said.
The seized liquor and the arrested accused were handed over to Jugsalai Police for further legal proceedings. In recent months, Jugsalai has seen a series of police actions. These include a brown sugar seizure, a motorcycle theft ring bust, and the arrest of three in a firing case. On the other hand, the recovery of a country-made pistol and a crore-rupee theft solved in 24 hours have also underlined sustained police activity in the area.
