Sonua Police Arrest Accused After Murder in Bari Village

CHAIBASA – A 19-year-old man allegedly strangled his aunt to death in Sonua after she refused money for intoxication.
A murder shocked Bari village under Sonua police station on Thursday evening. The incident occurred around 7:30 pm inside the victim’s house.
Meanwhile, police reached the village after receiving information from locals. Officers later detained accused Suraj Pradhan for questioning.
According to police, Suraj Pradhan regularly consumed intoxicating substances. He frequently demanded money from his 58-year-old aunt Nirvasini Pradhan.
However, Nirvasini Pradhan often refused giving money to the accused. Family members said disputes regularly occurred between both relatives.
Meanwhile, the accused again demanded money from his aunt on Thursday morning. The victim reportedly scolded him and forced him away.
Later, Suraj returned home again during the evening hours. He again demanded money for intoxication from his aunt.
However, the victim again refused to provide money to the accused. In anger, Suraj allegedly strangled Nirvasini Pradhan to death.
After the murder, the accused quietly remained inside the house. Meanwhile, Chakradharpur subdivision police officials began investigation soon after receiving information.
Police took the body into custody during the night operation. Moreover, officers interrogated Suraj Pradhan regarding the incident.
During questioning, the accused reportedly confessed to the murder. Police subsequently arrested him under relevant criminal charges.
Meanwhile, the body was sent for postmortem examination on Friday morning. The examination was conducted at Chakradharpur Sub-Divisional Hospital.
Family members said Nirvasini Pradhan was unmarried throughout her life. She lived with her brother’s family in Bari village.
Moreover, she had raised Suraj Pradhan since his childhood years. Relatives said she regularly supported him financially before stopping recently.
However, the accused allegedly became addicted to intoxicating substances. Family members claimed frequent disputes started after money was denied.
