Sachin, Meeta And Gouri Named In Dozens Of Ambush, IED Cases

JAMSHEDPUR – Three senior Maoist cadres who surrendered in Kolkata have drawn the attention of security agencies amid an ongoing campaign against the banned CPI (Maoist) in Jamshedpur and surrounding districts. Those who gave themselves up include regional committee member Ramprasad Murmu alias Sachin, zonal committee member Meeta alias Nayantara and sub-zonal committee member Gouri alias Bullu.
Police records show all three had been active across different parts of Jharkhand for an extended period. Cases against them include murder, attacks on security personnel, encounters and IED blasts.
Murmu, a resident of Jhujhka in Jamshedpur’s Patamda area, was active as a regional committee member of the Maoist outfit. The Jharkhand government had announced a reward of Rs 15 lakh on him, and police records list 44 cases registered against him.
Among the cases linked to Murmu is a March 2026 encounter between security forces and Maoists in forests along the Manoharpur, Chotanagra and Jaraikela border in Chaibasa. CoBRA jawan Vikram Yadav was injured during the operation. A subsequent IED blast left CoBRA assistant commandant Ajay Mallick and havildar Sanjay Kumar injured.
An earlier case tied to him involved a September 2024 IED blast in Jaraikela’s Tirilposi forest during an operation, in which CoBRA’s BDS team member R. Sugumar was injured. A January 2023 encounter and IED blast in Tumbahaka forest under Tonto police station left nine CoBRA personnel injured, and Murmu’s name surfaced in that case as well.
Meeta, a resident of West Bengal’s Purulia area and Murmu’s wife, was active as a zonal committee member. Police said 19 cases have been registered against her, with a reward of Rs 10 lakh announced on her arrest.
Her name has come up in connection with the September 2024 Tirilposi IED blast and the January 2023 Tumbahaka forest attack. She has also been linked to multiple cases registered across MGM, Ghatshila, Bodam, Kuchai and Jaraikela police station areas.
Gouri, a resident of West Bengal’s Jhargram area and wife of Maoist Madan Mahto alias Charan, served as a sub-zonal committee member. Police records list 18 cases against her.
In November 2025, a large cache of weapons, cartridges, IEDs and other material was recovered following an encounter with security forces in the Kulapuburu Saranda forest area under Chotanagra police station in Chaibasa. During the same period, an IED blast between Baliba and Babudera killed a trained CoBRA dog and injured a jawan.
In October 2025, a blast at Jaraikela’s Samatha forest area left CRPF inspector Kaushal Kumar Mishra injured. A second blast during the subsequent search operation injured sub-inspector Ramchandra Gogoi, while head constable Mahendra Lashkar died during treatment.
“The cases linked to Sachin, Meeta and Gouri show a large number of IED blasts and attacks on security forces recorded over the years,” a police source said, adding that the Saranda forest belt in West Singhbhum had remained a key centre of Maoist activity for a long period.
The surrender of the three cadres is being viewed as a significant development in the ongoing operation against the Maoist network in Jharkhand. It follows a broader pattern of security operations against extremist networks in the region, including a recent Hazaribagh operation targeting an opium network and a Palamu drug seizure. Security agencies are expected to focus on gathering further information about the organisation’s network and active members following the development.
