KANDRA – A cyclist was left critically injured after being hit by a truck at Kandra More under the Kandra police station area on Wednesday evening.

The victim, identified as Polus Bodra, a resident of Hariharpur, was struck by a truck bearing registration number JH 05CE 8956 in the accident.

The impact of the collision was so severe that the bone in Bodra’s arm was pushed out through the skin, leaving him critically injured at the scene.

Passers-by and villagers rushed to help the injured man immediately after the accident. They arranged an ambulance and sent him to a hospital in Jamshedpur for treatment.

Following the accident, the truck involved was stopped at the Kandra toll plaza. However, the driver managed to flee the spot soon after the vehicle was halted there.

Kandra police reached the site after receiving information about the accident and took the damaged truck into custody. Officers said the vehicle would be examined further as part of the investigation.

Police are now investigating the case and have launched a search for the truck driver, who remains at large following the incident.

The accident adds to a series of road mishaps reported from the wider Jamshedpur region in recent days. Officials had earlier confirmed a similar case involving a horrific accident on the Tata-Kandra road in Adityapur, in which two people were critically injured.

Meanwhile, road safety concerns have persisted across the district, with a bus involved in a separate incident after a major accident was averted when it suffered brake failure and ran over two bikes.

Besides accidents on major roads, similar mishaps have also been reported from other parts of the district, including a case where a Chandil road mishap killed one brother while leaving another critically injured.

On the other hand, hit-and-run cases involving unidentified vehicles have also surfaced recently, with a biker killed in a hit-and-run at Pardih leaving police struggling to identify the victim.

In addition, road accidents have continued to raise concerns in nearby industrial belts, with a truck earlier running over a young pedestrian in Potka, prompting protests over compensation.

Police said the search for the absconding driver was continuing and further updates on the case would be shared as the investigation progresses.
