Family Away At Birthday Party When Burglary Took Place

SARAIKELA – Thieves struck a locked house in Balrampur village under the Gamharia police station area of Saraikela district, making away with jewellery and cash worth lakhs of rupees.
Homeowner Santosh Kumar Singh has lodged a complaint at the Gamharia police station, alleging that gold and silver ornaments worth around Rs 30 lakh, along with Rs 28,000 in cash, were stolen from his house.
According to his written complaint, Singh had gone with his entire family to attend a birthday party at a relative’s house on the night of September 8. As it grew late, the family did not return home that night.
When Singh reached his house around 7:30 am on Wednesday morning, he found the door lock broken. Upon entering, he discovered that belongings inside had been strewn about and a cupboard was found open.
A subsequent check of valuables kept inside the house confirmed that a theft had taken place. Singh said the thieves had fled with gold and silver ornaments estimated to be worth close to Rs 30 lakh.
He added that around Rs 28,000 in cash was also found missing from the house. Following the incident, Singh filed a written complaint at the Gamharia police station, seeking a probe into the case as well as the recovery of the stolen jewellery and cash.
He has also demanded action against those involved in the burglary. “The thieves fled with jewellery and cash from my house while my family and I were away,” Singh said in his complaint.
The incident, involving the theft of valuables from an unattended house, has raised questions about the security situation in the area. Police said it would become clear only after investigation how many individuals were involved in the burglary, and whether the thieves already knew that large quantities of jewellery were kept inside the house or had targeted the locked property by chance.
The case adds to a string of theft-related incidents reported from the wider Seraikela-Kharsawan district in recent weeks. Officials had earlier confirmed the recovery of stolen goods after a burglary at a grain shop in Seraikela was solved within 24 hours.
Meanwhile, police in the district have also cracked other property crimes swiftly in recent days, including a case in which officers busted a vehicle theft gang and recovered stolen bikes in Gudabanda.
Besides burglary cases, nearby areas of the district have also witnessed related property crime this year, including a case involving a gold bangle fraud worth seven lakh reported from Sakchi.
On the other hand, police elsewhere in the region have shown quick resolution of similar cases, having previously busted a vehicle theft gang in Jamshedpur and recovered stolen bikes and mobile phones.
In addition, authorities in the wider East Singhbhum region have continued to report a rise in similar cases, with police recently recovering 33 lost mobile phones in Chaibasa.
Gamharia police said an investigation into the Balrampur theft was underway and further details would be shared as the probe progresses.
