Bistupur Police Launch Hunt For Masked Suspect

JAMSHEDPUR – A masked woman attempted to rob an elderly resident inside an apartment near Bistupur police station area on Friday.
The incident took place at a flat near Dhatkidih’s main mosque. Police said the accused entered the apartment and attacked the woman inside.
According to the complaint, the attacker threw chilli powder into the victim’s eyes. She then allegedly tried to tie the elderly woman with a rope.
The accused reportedly attempted to snatch the victim’s gold ornaments next. These included a chain and a pair of bala bangles, police said.
However, the elderly woman resisted and began shouting for help. Her cries alerted other residents of the apartment complex.
People from nearby flats rushed toward the spot soon after. This created panic and confusion across the entire building, according to residents.
Seeing herself surrounded, the masked attacker grew nervous, police said. She abandoned the snatched jewellery on the spot and fled immediately.
Bistupur police reached the location as soon as they were informed. Officers have since opened an investigation into the incident.
Investigators are examining CCTV footage from the apartment and surrounding areas. They are also conducting raids to identify and arrest the accused woman.
Meanwhile, the daylight nature of the attack has unsettled residents of the locality. Police said they expect to identify the suspect soon.
Similar disturbances have occurred in Dhatkidih before, including a clash between two groups over an old dispute. Besides that, a case from Bishtupur earlier this year also drew heavy police scrutiny.
In addition, a fire-related chaos in the area at Sidhgora last year had similarly alarmed local residents. On the other hand, police have recently stepped up checks across the city.
City police had earlier conducted a surprise raid on a suspected racket in the city. Similarly, officers had recovered stolen bikes in a separate case earlier this year.
Elsewhere, a case involving a flat in Bhuiyandih had also drawn police action in the past. Officials said such incidents highlight the need for stronger residential security in the city.
