JAMSHEDPUR – A young motorcyclist suffered critical injuries on Thursday after a speeding hyva truck ran into him near the Burning Ghat roundabout in the Sitaramdera police station area.
Both of the victim’s legs were badly injured in the collision, according to witnesses. He has been identified as Uttam Kalindi, a resident of Kunwar Basti in Mango.
However, panic broke out at the scene immediately after the accident. Local residents acted quickly and rushed the seriously injured Kalindi to MGM Hospital, where doctors are monitoring his treatment. Physicians described his condition as concerning.
According to available information, Kalindi works as a mechanic at a garage in Baridih. Meanwhile, he had gone to his aunt’s house in Chhayanagar on Thursday morning before heading to work. He was riding back toward Baridih on his motorcycle when a fast-moving hyva struck him near the Burning Ghat roundabout, throwing him onto the road.
Besides fleeing the scene, the hyva driver abandoned the vehicle at the spot after the collision. Sitaramdera police reached the location soon after being alerted and seized the truck. The police have opened an investigation and are conducting raids to trace the absconding driver.
In addition, the accident is not an isolated one in the area. A similar case was reported earlier when a young man’s body was found under suspicious circumstances in the same police station area. Other recent incidents include a road accident near Rapcha and a hit-and-run in Pardih that left a biker dead.
Moreover, following Thursday’s accident, local residents raised concerns over the high speed of heavy vehicles in the area. They have urged the administration to take strict action and make the traffic system safer.
