JAMSHEDPUR – A major burglary took place in Vijay Garden, Baridih, on Thursday afternoon when thieves broke into two flats in the same building.
According to reports, the culprits first tried to force open the door of a flat on the sixth floor but failed. However, they later broke into the eighth-floor flat of school teacher Nidhi Singh and looted valuables worth several lakhs.
Police said the thieves took away gold jewellery valued between ₹50 and ₹60 lakh, along with ₹15,000 in cash. At the time of the incident, Nidhi Singh was teaching at Valley View School in Telco, while her children were in school.
When she returned home, she found the main door lock broken and all room locks damaged. Moreover, all jewellery and cash kept in the bedroom were missing.
Her husband stated that similar thefts had occurred earlier in the same apartment complex. “Last year, around three to four flats were burgled in this building,” he said.
Meanwhile, police teams from Birsanagar Police Station reached the spot and have begun investigating the case. Forensic experts have also been called in to collect evidence.
Authorities suspect the involvement of professional thieves who may have been tracking the residents’ movements.
