Sukhlal Tudu of TSAF Wins Jharkhand’s First Junior National Rowing Medal

Dimna-Based Rower Clinches Bronze at Gorakhpur Championship, Etches Name in State’s Sporting History

Key Points:

  • Sukhlal Tudu wins bronze in Single Scull at Junior National Rowing Championship
  • First-ever national-level junior rowing medal for any athlete from Jharkhand
  • TSAF Rowing Academy at Dimna Lake backed by JCAPCPL

JAMSHEDPUR – Sukhlal Tudu of the Tata Steel Adventure Foundation (TSAF) Rowing Academy has created sporting history by winning Jharkhand’s first-ever medal at the Junior National Rowing Championship, held in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh, on May 21, 2026.

Tudu, a resident of Dimna, bagged a bronze medal in the demanding Single Scull event. In this discipline, the rower competes alone in the boat without any teammate support.

Competing against the country’s finest young rowers, Tudu secured third place. He displayed remarkable strength, endurance, and focus throughout the gruelling contest.

“He has shown that local talent from Jamshedpur can compete with and beat the best in the country,” said a source close to the academy.

The TSAF Rowing Academy is located at Dimna Lake. Tudu trains there on a daily basis under a rigorous regimen.

This bronze is the first medal ever won by a Jharkhand athlete in a junior national rowing competition. Meanwhile, the achievement has also highlighted the quality of training at the academy.

The TSAF Rowing Academy receives support from its sports development partner, JCAPCPL. The organisation has been contributing consistently to the development of athletes and to building a strong rowing ecosystem in the region.

This win follows a series of strong performances by TSAF athletes at national platforms. Earlier this year, the TSAF Rowing Academy created history by winning its fourth national medal at the Indoor Rowing Championship 2026.

On the other hand, the TSAF Climbing Academy also sent three athletes to the 2026 Asian Games, further underlining the foundation’s growing stature in Indian sport.

In addition, TSAF cadets had won six medals at the IFSC Asian Kids Sport Climbing Championship 2025, reflecting the consistent medal-winning record of the foundation across disciplines.

Tudu’s rowing medal is expected to inspire other young rowers from Jharkhand to pursue the sport at the national level.
