DAV Bistupur: Storytelling, Play-Based Learning Highlighted on Final Day of Teacher Training

JAMSHEDPUR – The final day of the Capacity Building Programme for in-service teachers commenced with the recitation of the Gayatri Mantra and featured insightful sessions on storytelling, play-based learning, and flexible assessment techniques.

The first session, led by Mrs. Renu Kumari from DAV Mahuda, emphasized the importance of storytelling in child development.

She explained how storytelling enhances logical thinking, memory, and imagination, fostering creative inspiration in young minds.

Play-Based Learning Techniques

Mrs. Kriti Mishra from Tata DAV Sijua led the next session on "Play as a Learning Engine," demonstrating various activities designed to inculcate values and promote learning in pre-primary students.

She showcased "Jadui Pitara," an educational tool for foundational learners that supports cognitive and psychomotor development through playful activities.

Motor Skills and Safety in Nursery

Mrs. Rinki Kumari from DAVPS Bistupur conducted a session on motor skills and safety in nursery classes, focusing on gross and fine motor skills, balance, body awareness, and health.

She highlighted the importance of age-appropriate, verbal assessments in nursery classes and recommended maintaining a monthly student portfolio.

Assessment Through Play

The final sessions, conducted by Mrs. Jasbir Kaur and Mrs. Kanchan Kumari from DAVPS Bistupur, focused on assessment techniques through play and activities.

They discussed the use of checklists, anecdotal records, and cumulative cards, stressing the need for flexible assessment methods tailored to individual student needs.

Programme Conclusion

The two-day programme concluded with a vote of thanks by EEDP coordinator Mrs. Sutapa Ghosh, who praised the dedication and expertise of all participants and trainers.

The training equipped teachers with innovative strategies to enhance early childhood education, ensuring a strong foundation for young learners.
