Women in West Singhbhum and Chaibasa Township Celebrate Vat Savitri Puja for Family Fortunes

In West Singhbhum and Chaibasa township, women observe Vat Savitri Puja, praying for their husbands and families’ continued prosperity.

Chaibasa – The women of West Singhbhum, including Chaibasa township, are celebrating the auspicious Vat Savitri Puja today. In a fervent display of faith and love, they are praying for their husbands’ wellbeing and their families’ unbroken good fortune.

After offering worship, the women performed the symbolic ritual of tying the Raksha thread around the Banyan tree. This traditional act is done with the belief that it offers protection to their husbands.

Following the rituals, the women gathered to listen to the narrated story of Savitri, Satyavan, and Lord Yamraj.

This tale, as told by a Brahmin present at the ceremony, is a key part of the Vat Savitri observance.

It exemplifies the devoted Savitri’s courage and wisdom, and her love for her husband Satyavan, that even compelled the god of death, Yamraj, to return Satyavan’s life.

In the spirit of the festival, banyan trees were planted throughout the area. Women were seen performing the worship of these trees, highlighting the reverence they hold for this age-old tradition.
