I.E.Ds Planted by Naxalites Recovered and Destroyed in West Singhbhum

Security forces foil Naxalite attempt to target personnel, joint operation underway in Kolhan area

In a major success for security forces, three Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) planted by Naxalites to target police personnel have been recovered and destroyed in the forest hill area between Sarjomburu and Maradiri under the Tonto and Goilkera police stations of West Singhbhum district.

CHAIBASA – The recovery of the IEDs, weighing 2 kg, 5 kg, and 8-10 kg, respectively, has foiled the Naxalites’ attempt to harm the security forces operating in the heavily affected areas.

The IEDs were destroyed at the site for security reasons.

The operation was carried out by a joint team comprising personnel from Chaibasa Police, Cobra 209 BN, 203 BN, 205 BN, Jharkhand Jaguar, and CRPF 60 BN, 197 BN, 157 BN, 174 BN, 193 BN, 134 BN, 26 BN, 190 BN, and 11 BN.

The ongoing campaign, which began on October 10, 2023, targets villages under the Tonto police station, including Kuida, Chhota Kuida, Maradiri, Meralgada, Hathiburu, Tilaybeda, and the border areas of Boypaissang, Katamba, Bayhatu, Boroy, Lemsadih, Husipi, Rajabasa, Tumbahaka, Regada, Patatorb, Goburu, and Luiya.

The recovery of the IEDs comes in light of reports suggesting the presence of top leaders of the banned CPI(MAO) Naxalite organization, including Misir Besra, Anmol, Mochu, Chaman, Kande, Ajay Mahato, Sagen Angriya, and Ashwin, along with their squad members, in the Kolhan area, where they were reportedly engaged in subversive activities.

"Apart from the three IEDs, another IED was found planted in the forest hill area around Vanagram Sarjomburu under Tonto police station, which was also recovered and destroyed with the help of the bomb disposal squad," stated an official.

The joint operation by the security forces is ongoing, with the aim of neutralizing the Naxalite threat in the region and ensuring the safety of the local population.

The successful recovery and destruction of the IEDs have dealt a significant blow to the Naxalites’ plans and have reinforced the commitment of the security forces to maintain peace and security in the area.
