Baby Girl

Congrats, it’s a baby girl.

Wrap her up, let the autumn leaves curl.

At 5, she plays with her brother’s car.

Her mother reminds, come back soon and don’t go far.

She sprinted down the lane, holding the car tight.

Leaving behind a trail of dust, shining like the moon in the endless night.

Her friends assembled, meeting after holidays that lasted a week.

After much discussion they reached the conclusion and agreed to play Hide and Seek.

She hid in an alley, for what seemed like an hour.

Tires screeched and sirens wailed somewhere far.

The sky grew dark, the friends went home.

Birds left for their nests, past the church’s dome.

But where was the girl? No one knew.

Deep in the alley lay a toy car and a tiny shoe.

The girl was never seen, the parents lost their gem.

The birds stopped chirping,  on the ground lay a broken stem.

The man with red hands walked free.

Watching him from a distance was the big old Banyan tree.

Then, his phone rang and came a call from home.

Congrats, it’s a baby girl
