Forest Department on High Alert as Suspected Leopard Presence Reported from Sonari

Residents Concerned over Possibility of Leopard Having Killed a Pig in Sonari

JAMSHEDPUR – The Forest Department has received information about a possible leopard presence in the northern layout of Sonari, causing concern among local residents.

According to reports, the leopard might have killed a pig last night, leaving half of its torso eaten and the other half cut open.

The forest department team has reached the location and investigated the matter, collecting samples from the remaining part of the pig.

Leopard Sightings Cause Concern

The atmosphere in the Kadma and Sonari areas of Jamshedpur is anxious following the possible recent leopard sightings in both Kadma and Sonari areas.

While the Forest Department is still speculating whether the animal spotted in Sonari is a leopard or another species, local residents are convinced that it was indeed a leopard.

Earlier, since yesterday, the department has been on high alert after the leopard was seen near the Biodiversity Center in Kadma.

Efforts to Rescue the Leopard

To catch and rescue the leopard, the Forest Department has requested a cage vehicle from the Palamu Tiger Project.

Divisional Forest Officer Mamta Priyadarshi has written to the Chief Forest Conservator and Area Director of Palamu Tiger Project, requesting the cage, vehicle, a biologist, and a veterinarian.

Three teams, consisting of eight employees each from Ghatshila, Musabani, Chakulia, and Mango forest areas, have been formed to protect lives and property while rescuing the leopard in Kadma.

Previous Leopard Sightings

A few days ago, a leopard was spotted in the Adityapur Industrial Area, and its CCTV footage was captured.

Forest department teams from Bengal and Palamu attempted to catch the leopard, but it was not seen again until it reappeared in the Biodiversity Park on Thursday and Friday night.

A guard has recorded a video of the leopard, prompting the forest department to remain alert. The administration also issued an advisory for the citizens after it was confirmed that the leopard was indeed sighted in Kadma.
