Massive Cash Haul from MP’s Premises Sparks PIL for CBI, ED Probe
Jharkhand HC petitioned for investigation into Congress MP’s alleged economic offense.
RANCHI – The Jharkhand High Court is now involved in the case concerning the recovery of over Rs 500 crore from various locations linked to Congress MP Dheeraj Sahu.
Danyal Danish, a resident of Jamshedpur, has filed a public interest litigation (PIL) seeking an investigation by central agencies, namely the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Enforcement Directorate (ED).
The PIL, filed on Thursday, asserts that the substantial cash seizure from an MP’s premises is a severe issue, indicating a possible economic offense.
It calls for a thorough investigation to determine the origin of the funds and the potential involvement of other parties.
The case traces back to December 6, when the Income Tax department conducted raids at several places associated with Dheeraj Sahu, leading to the startling discovery of 30 cupboards filled with cash.
The counting of the seized notes has been ongoing since the raid.
Current reports suggest that the total amount recovered exceeds Rs 500 crore, in addition to 17 kilograms of jewelry.
Advocates said that the PIL’s filing underscores the gravity of the situation and the public demand for transparency and accountability in the investigation process.
