JAMSHEDPUR – Amid a sharp drop in temperatures, parents in Jamshedpur have urged local authorities to adjust school timings for students’ safety.
The Jamshedpur Parents’ Association, led by Dr. Umesh Kumar, submitted a formal request to the Deputy Commissioner. The plea emphasized how the city’s temperature has fallen below 10°C, with potential for further decline due to forecasted cold waves.
Proposed Adjustments for Students
The delegation suggested modifying school hours to shield children from the biting cold. They recommended starting classes for students in nursery to grade 5 at 10 a.m., ending at 2 p.m. For grades 6 to 12, classes could extend until 3 p.m., aligning with safety considerations.
Broader Context of the Cold Wave
Severe cold has gripped not only Jamshedpur but the entire state of Jharkhand. Meteorologists predict intensified chill and possible cold waves in the coming days. Parents expressed concerns over health risks associated with early morning school hours.
A Call for Swift Action
Dr. Kumar highlighted the urgency of the issue, stating, “The safety of our children must remain a priority. Adjusting school schedules is a small but critical step.” The Association hopes for a timely resolution to mitigate risks posed by the harsh weather conditions.
The proposal reflects the community’s proactive approach to ensuring students’ well-being during challenging weather conditions.
