• Jharia Division holds memorial service for late industrialist

DHANBAD – The Tata Steel Jharia Division in Dhanbad recalls the impactful visits of Ratan Tata, the former Tata Sons chairman, as they mourn his recent passing.

Tata’s first visit to Dhanbad occurred in 1992, shortly after becoming Tata Steel chairman.

He returned in 1994 and made his final visit in 2001 to inaugurate Dorabji Tata Park.

During his 1992 tour, Tata faced a tense situation at a scheduled press conference.

A report claiming massive worker retrenchment had upset the industrialist.

Initially, Tata refused to address the gathered journalists at the Director’s Bungalow.

However, he later surprised everyone with an unexpected gesture of humility.

"Tata personally served tea to the journalists," recalled a veteran reporter.

This act of serving refreshments himself left a lasting impression on the media.

Meanwhile, the Jharia Division recently held a memorial service for Tata.

The event took place on the General Manager’s Office lawn in Dhanbad.

Sanjay Rajoria, General Manager of Jharia Division, attended the tribute.

Other key figures present included Sunita Rajoria and Narendra Kumar Gupta.

Moreover, union officials and company employees joined to pay their respects.

The gathering reflected on Tata’s significant impact on the coal belt region.

His legacy continues to inspire the Tata Steel community in Jharia Division.
