Jamshedpur Hosts Inaugural NTHA Grassroot Hockey Festival
Four-day event showcases young talent, promotes grassroots development in Jharkhand
The East Singhbhum Hockey Association and Naval Tata Hockey Academy’s first grassroots festival concludes with Team Hata emerging as champions.
JAMSHEDPUR – The city witnessed a surge of young hockey talent as the inaugural NTHA Grassroot Festival unfolded from June 19-22 at the Naval Tata Hockey Academy grounds.
Four teams – Bandgaon, Hata, Chaibasa, and Jamshedpur – competed in the league, showcasing promising skills and fierce determination.
"This festival aims to nurture grassroots talent and instill a love for hockey among our youth," stated Chandreyee, General Secretary of East Singhbhum Hockey Association.
The grand finale saw Team Hata clinch the championship with a 1-0 victory over Jamshedpur, with Mundri Krishna named Player of the Match.
Mundri Fagur from Team Jamshedpur was recognized as the emerging player, while Mundu Sameil received the Best Player of the Tournament award.
Olympic Gold Medalist Bovelander Florish graced the event, along with Captain Amitabh, Head Sports Tata Steel Foundation, and other dignitaries.
The festival featured daily matches, with teams demonstrating high levels of skill and sportsmanship throughout the competition.
Kumar Manish, Head Coach of NTHA, expressed satisfaction with the talent on display and the potential for future development.
The event saw strong community support, with local sports enthusiasts turning out in large numbers to encourage the young athletes.
This grassroots initiative is expected to play a crucial role in identifying and nurturing hockey talent in Jharkhand.
