World Leprosy Day observed in MGMCH
Jamshedpur: The entire world is observing World Leprosy Day today. A number of programs were organised in the city too.
An awareness camp was held in the skin department of MGMCH to mark the World Leprosy Day.
Addressing the programme, the different specialists said that leprosy can be cured if the symptoms are detected in the very beginning itself.
The Skin Specialist Dr Rajiv Kumar said that if leprosy is detected in the primary stage, it can be cured with treatment of a few months.
However, he said, many people feel ashamed and do not want to reveal the symptoms and therefore do not visit a doctor.
He said that there is nothing bad or ignoble about this disease and this too is like any other infectious disease which can be treated.
He said that if treatment is not started in the primary stage, it may cause disability and impacts the quality of life.
He advised everyone to ensure that they visit a doctor the moment they suspect that any symptom is visible in their body.
