UCIL Worker’s 80-Year-Old Father Hacked to Death in Jadugora’s Rakha Colony

JADUGORA — An 80-year-old man was brutally murdered with a sharp-edged weapon at the old nursery school premises in Rakha Copper Colony near Jadugora, sending shock waves through the area.
The deceased has been identified as Ratan Bahadur Shrestha, father of Sanjay Shrestha, an employee of UCIL. According to information received, Ratan Bahadur had come to Rakha Colony from Jadugora the previous night for some work. However, he did not return home until late at night.
The following morning, local residents found the elderly man lying dead in a pool of blood inside the old nursery school compound. An injured woman was also found at the scene. Locals immediately alerted the Jadugora police station.
Sub-Inspector Pritam Raj reached the spot along with his team and began an investigation into the murder. The injured woman is currently being questioned by police. Moreover, investigators are attempting to establish the motive behind the killing through her statement.
The body has been seized by police and sent for post-mortem examination. In addition, raids have been launched to trace the unknown assailant. “The culprits will be identified and arrested very soon,” a police officer said.
The incident has created an atmosphere of fear and outrage across the area. Rakha Copper Colony falls under the Rakha Mines belt near Jadugora, which is known for its uranium mining operations run by UCIL, a government undertaking under the Department of Atomic Energy. Meanwhile, the identity of the attacker remained unknown and no arrest had been made at the time of filing this report.
