BAHARAGORA — Two young men were critically injured on Tuesday evening when an out-of-control trailer struck their motorcycle from behind on National Highway 49, near the Bala and Sons company premises in the Baharagora police station area.
The two men were returning home from Baharagora when the speeding trailer rammed into their bike with considerable force. Both were thrown off the motorcycle and lay bleeding on the road.
Local residents gathered at the scene almost immediately after the impact. In a display of prompt civic response, they informed the ambulance service without delay. Moreover, they ensured both injured men were transported to Baharagora Community Health Centre without losing time.
The injured have been identified as Bikram Munda, 25, and Tarak Munda, 38. Both are residents of Gurursai village under the Barsol police station area. However, their conditions were found to be critical upon arrival at the CHC.
After administering primary treatment, doctors at Baharagora CHC assessed both patients as being in a serious condition. In addition, they decided to refer both men to PRM Medical College at Baripada in Odisha for advanced medical care. The trailer involved in the accident had been heading from behind before losing control and hitting the motorcycle. The condition of the two injured persons was stated to be critical at the time of referral.
Local residents who assisted at the scene said the impact of the collision was severe. “The trailer hit the bike so hard that both riders were flung off instantly,” said a local resident who was present at the spot. Police have been informed of the incident and an investigation into the road accident is under way.
NH 49 passes through the Baharagora area and has witnessed a number of road accidents in recent times. Meanwhile, the trailer driver had not been traced at the time of filing this report. The accident on the highway has once again raised questions about the movement of heavy vehicles and road safety on the stretch.
