JAMSHEDPUR – A pickup van carrying construction workers overturned near Khetan Factory in Dhalbhumgarh, killing one mason and injuring several others.

The accident occurred on Wednesday in Betjhariya area. The vehicle bore registration number OR11G-4939.

It was reportedly used by Pankaj Jha alias Suresh Jha. He is a resident of Patnayakshaul in Dhalbhumgarh block.

Meanwhile, he works as a vendor at Gudabandha block office. Around 11 to 12 masons were being transported.

They were heading to Panduguda for construction work. The pickup was loaded with cement and laborers.

However, eyewitnesses alleged the driver was heavily intoxicated. A woman seated beside him warned repeatedly.

She was traveling with her children for work. Despite warnings, the driver did not slow down.

At a turning point, the vehicle lost control. It overturned with all four wheels upward.

Mangal Munda, a mason, died on the spot. Several other workers sustained injuries.

Meanwhile, panic spread across the locality. Residents rushed to assist the victims.

Members of Seva Hi Dharma organization intervened. Naushad Ahmed and Gulshan Kumar helped arrange ambulances.

The injured were taken to the primary health center. One patient remained there for treatment.

However, others were referred to MGM Hospital. Doctors are monitoring their condition.

Police have initiated an investigation into the crash. Further action is underway.

Earlier, a pickup van accident claimed lives in the region. Similar incidents were reported near Chandil on NH-33.

Authorities have urged drivers to avoid reckless driving. Officials said strict checks will continue.
