JAMSHEDPUR — Panic swept through the Azadnagar police station area on Wednesday evening when two youths openly brandished weapons near Gangore Sweets, sending residents into a frenzy.

According to information available, the accused youth had taken his wife to the highway on the pretext of a conversation, accompanied by his friend. A dispute broke out between the couple during this outing. The argument escalated to such a point that Shariq began assaulting his wife on the bike itself while returning.

The woman tried to resist and protect herself. However, the accused’s aggression continued to mount. Locals who witnessed the assault on the woman began gathering at the spot, creating a tense atmosphere.

On seeing the crowd swell, the two accused pulled out weapons and began brandishing them openly. The move triggered a near-stampede situation in the area. Meanwhile, one courageous youth attempted to detain the accused. However, both of them seized the opportunity and fled the scene.

After the accused fled, local residents ensured the woman was safely escorted to Gangore Sweets and informed the police. Azadnagar thana in-charge Chandan Kumar arrived at the spot with a police contingent and launched an investigation.

The victim told police that disputes between her and her husband had been ongoing for some time. The open display of weapons in a public area has alarmed residents. A daylight crime had similarly rattled the city earlier this year. Police have since tightened security in the area and are currently searching for both the accused and his friend.
