Violent Clash Between Sonari Janta Basti and Kadma Gandhi Basti Youths Rocks Jamshedpur

Police Intervene as Situation Escalates, Multiple Injuries Reported

A group of around 100 to 150 youths from Janta Basti in Sonari police station area launched a violent attack on Gandhi Basti near Ramnagar Road No. 1 in Kadma police station area of Jamshedpur on Sunday evening at approximately 5:15 pm.

JAMSHEDPUR – The peaceful atmosphere of Jamshedpur was shattered on Sunday evening when a mob of youths from Janta Basti clashed with the residents of Gandhi Basti.

Eyewitnesses reported that the assailants, numbering between 100 and 150, stormed into Gandhi Basti, creating a massive disturbance and even resorting to firing two rounds in the air to intimidate the locals.

The incident took a disturbing turn as the attackers reportedly beat up and molested women during the rampage.

Police Response and Injuries

Upon receiving information about the unfolding situation, police station in-charge Sanjay Suman promptly arrived at the scene with two jawans, attempting to defuse the tension and restore order.

Their intervention prompted the youths from Janta Basti to flee the area.

However, the violent clash left several individuals injured, including Mukesh Karmakar from Gandhi Basti and Raja Machhua, Virendra Sardar, and Kishan Machhua from Janta Basti.

The police swiftly arranged for the injured to be transported to MGM Hospital for medical treatment.

Weapons Recovered and Security Measures

During their investigation at the scene, the police recovered a country-made pistol, which had allegedly been brought by the youths from Janta Basti.

Recognizing the gravity of the situation, the authorities have deployed the Quick Response Team (QRT) in the affected area to maintain law and order and prevent any further escalation of violence.

Long-Standing Dispute and Previous Incidents

According to local sources, the violent clash is rooted in a long-standing dispute between the two colonies that has persisted for the past 4-5 years.

A previous incident on April 6 this year, where girls, women, and men from Gandhi Basti faced molestation and assault while visiting Janta Basti for Mangala Puja, had further intensified the animosity between the two communities.

The situation escalated on Saturday when a youth from Janta Basti, in an inebriated state, entered Gandhi Basti and was confronted by local youths who accused him of being responsible for thefts in the area whenever he visited.

Threats and Fear Among Residents

As the attackers from Janta Basti retreated, they reportedly issued chilling threats to the women of Gandhi Basti, warning them of a potential bomb attack on the colony during the night and threatening to kill the youths of the area.

These threats have left the residents, particularly the women, in a state of fear and anxiety.

The authorities have responded by deploying a substantial police force near Gandhi Basti to ensure the safety and security of the residents.

Ruckus at MGM Hospital

The chaos spilled over to MGM Hospital, where the injured youths from Sonari Janta Basti were taken for treatment.

People from their colony created a disturbance at the hospital, even pushing the police who were attempting to escort the youths to Kadma police station.

The arrival of additional police forces from Sakchi police station eventually dispersed the crowd.

As tensions remain high in the aftermath of the violent clash, the authorities are working to maintain peace and prevent any further outbreaks of violence.
