JAMSHEDPUR – The Labour Superintendent’s office held a tripartite meeting on October 7 regarding overtime payment disputes at Tata BlueScope Steel.
Contract workers face payment issues at the facility. Messrs Siganod India Limited employs them as contractors. However, the company makes them work on national holidays.
Workers work on May 1, August 15 and October 2. The management pays single overtime rates for these days. Moreover, this practice causes financial exploitation of laborers.
The Labour Superintendent conducted the tripartite discussions today. Swapna Mukherjee represented Baba Loknath’s interests at the meeting. Meanwhile, the official issued clear directions to management.
The superintendent questioned the payment deductions made by the company. He asked why workers received reduced amounts. In addition, he demanded management’s written explanation.
Tata BlueScope management must present their position soon. The next hearing will occur on October 30. Furthermore, the company must justify their payment practices.
Officials want to ensure justice for the workers. The management must attend the upcoming meeting. Besides, they need to explain their overtime calculation method.
Dhananjay Shukla attended from Jamshedpur Mazdoor Union. General Secretary Ambuj Kumar Thakur also represented the union. On the other hand, Swapna Mukherjee came for management.
