Ranchi’s ‘Nirmal Awas’ Offers New Hope for Leprosy Patients

CM Soren inaugurates modern housing complex for affected individuals

Jharkhand government initiative provides dignified living spaces and essential amenities to marginalized community.

RANCHI – A transformative housing project in Ranchi marks a significant step towards social inclusion and improved quality of life.

Chief Minister Hemant Soren has unveiled a groundbreaking residential complex for leprosy-affected individuals in Ranchi’s Mudma area.

The project, initially called ‘Kusthashram’, has been renamed ‘Nirmal Awas’ at the CM’s suggestion to promote dignity and pride.

"We aim to create a beautiful living space that residents can take pride in," Soren stated during the inauguration ceremony.

The colony, constructed on 5.5 acres, features seven G+1 blocks housing 256 flats built at a cost of Rs 35 crore.

Each unit, valued at approximately Rs 13 lakh, is being provided free of cost to beneficiaries.

Urban Development Secretary Arava Rajkamal highlighted the comprehensive amenities included in the project.

"From solar-powered street lights to rainwater harvesting systems, we’ve ensured a comfortable and sustainable living environment," Rajkamal explained.

The state government has shouldered the entire financial burden, contributing Rs 11 lakh per unit to support the affected community.

Plans are underway to replicate this model in other districts, including Jamshedpur and Deoghar, as part of a broader initiative.
