Makar Parva Festivities Ready to Enthrall Baharagora

Baharagora Villages Set for Vibrant Makar Parva Celebrations with Kites, Holy Baths, and Festive Fairs

In Baharagora, the vibrant Makar Parva marks the transition from Pus to Magh month with a spectrum of cultural festivities and sacred rituals.

JAMSHEDPUR – Makar Parva, a festival of grandeur and tradition, is all set to unfold in the villages of Madhuabera, Mahuldangri, Bamdol, Chadkamara, and others in the Baharagora block.

This festivity, celebrating the end of the holy month of Pus and the onset of Magh, is characterized by a variety of cultural expressions.

From kite flying to the enjoyment of chuda-dahi, the festival embodies the diverse traditions of the region.

The highlight of the celebration is the Makar Snan, a sacred bath ritual performed on the eve of the festival.

Many people journey to the Swarn Rekha River, with the most devout bathing at dawn on the 15th, a practice held in high regard in the community.

Devotees also flock to the Kesari Kund of the sacred Vaitarani, seeking blessings by bathing in the same waters that Lord Shri Ramchandra once graced.

The rituals begin early, with children lighting fires in the Brahma Muhurta, chanting ‘Hari Bol Hari’, and taking dips in various ponds and rivers.

Following the holy baths, the focus shifts to gastronomic and recreational activities, marking the commencement of the meat pitha pona phase.

The festival morphs into a lively fair, known as the Tusu festival, complete with Murga Pada and sports, creating an atmosphere of joy and community bonding.

The Makar Peetha (Jaggery Peetha) and Tusu festival fair, spanning about two weeks, bring together people from all walks of life, turning the area into a hub of cultural festivities.
