Over 100 Contract Cleaners Strike at Tatanagar, Halting Station’s Sanitation; Railways Scramble for Solutions.
Tatanagar station faces a major cleanliness challenge as contract laborers strike, demanding bonuses and other rights, affecting passengers and operations.
JAMSHEDPUR – More than a hundred contract laborers responsible for cleaning at Tatanagar station have gone on strike.
Their demands include bonuses and other entitlements.
This strike has led to a complete halt of cleaning work at the station.
Consequently, dirt and litter were visibly spread across the station areas on Saturday morning.
Passengers expressed significant discomfort and worry due to the unclean conditions.
In response, the Railways have assigned cleaning responsibilities to staff in colonies.
Tatanagar station’s cleaning is managed by GSIS agency, employing 105 workers across three shifts.
With the strike, only 10 cleaning workers from the colony are handling the station’s cleanliness.
This situation has caused concern from Tatanagar to the Chakradharpur division and even at the South Eastern Railway zone headquarters.
Railway officials are actively working to resolve the issue and resume normal cleaning operations.
Reports indicate that the contract of GSIS, the agency responsible for cleaning, had expired a few months ago, yet work has continued on a contact basis.
The sudden work stoppage has put additional pressure on the railway administration to address the labor grievances and restore station hygiene.
